welcome to our web pages.
If you are thinking about taking a windsurfing holiday on Gran Canaria - you have come to the right place for all your questions.
We will help you choose the right windsurfing equipment to bring with you or to rent, for the spot and time of year you visit the island. We have more then 25 years of experience with the wind here and know the norm and what you can expect. To find out more about the different spots see "SPOT INFO" in menu.
We can also book your bungalow in Side Shore, which is family run and if you need a windsurfing rental car w/ roof racks our partner is the right choice. They will pick you up at the airport and you are welcome to leave the car there again when departing.
So drop us a line if you are planing to visit, with a few helping points you end up the right place and more importantly - you bring or book what you need. You can use the booking form in menu.
Wind probability: GRAN CANARIA ONLY!!
The wind probability we have on Gran Canaria is the highest of all Canary Islands, yearly average is over 80%. There are many different spots to choose from; freeride, wave sailing, speed sailing, all within a 30 km radius. At Playa del Aguila, where the Dunkerbeck Windsurfing Centre is located we have perfect side on shore trade wind from September / October through May and on a normal day it is 4-6 bft. with a little wave on the inside (shore break). During the summer months the wind direction is more north an does not reach our centre, you will have to drive to spots on the east coast to windsurf, ca. 10 - 15 minutes drive from the centre location (**note we do note have transportation service**). Most windsurf beaches here have rounded pebbles, but with sand in the water. There are no major currents or other dangerous aspects. For more info on all spots check SPOTS in menu.
Rental Equipment
The center is equipped with North Sails (production and prototypes) and Neil Pryde (with X5 components). The prototypes from North Sails are all made in the R&D Loft on Gran Canaria by Kai Hoff (North Sails sail designer) and his test team; including Bjorn Dunkerbeck since 2005. Many of these sails were used by top North Sails competitors duringWorl Cup events. Some still carry personal sponsor stickers with sail numbers and PWA event stickers (these sails are also for sale - you can read more about it under SURF SHOP in our menu or send us an e-mail).
The boards are Proof custom boards, prototypes and semi custom: waves, freestyle, freeride, speed. Thommen T1: RS 55, 60, 65 and 75 (slalom, racing, speed) prototype freeride and semi custom freeride. You can find more information under the rental equipment / prices icon in our menu. Prebooking is not necessary but appreciated. Also for big holidays like Xmas and Easter pre reservations are always recommended.
Location of the Dunkerbeck Windsurfing Center
The windsurfing center is located INSIDE the bungalow complex SIDE SHORE, on Aguila Beach (Playa del Aguila), in San Agustin on the South East coast of Gran Canaria.
Bungalows Side Shore
There are 25 bungalows, pool and restaurant, where we serve breakfast and dinner. The bungalows can also be booked through this address. For more information on bungalows and restaurant prices please look under „bungalows“ in our menu.
